Before you appoint a marine surveyor
What information is needed for a Thailand marine survey quote?
Provide the province, coast, exact marina or yard, vessel particulars, construction, purpose and preferred date. Include haul-out, sea trial, island or domestic travel, report language and any insurer, lender, registration or Marine Department requirement.
Can one surveyor cover both Phuket and the Gulf of Thailand?
A surveyor may travel, but the Andaman and Gulf coasts are separate operating areas. Flights, road travel, accommodation, yard capability and local availability should be agreed for the actual location.
Is a private pre-purchase survey the same as a Thai statutory survey?
No. Thailand’s Marine Department authorises defined Vessel Surveying Institutes or Recognized Organizations to conduct delegated ship surveys and issue certificates within an agreed scope. Confirm the accepting route before appointment.
Can the report be issued in Thai or English?
Either may be available, but report language, terminology, translations and the intended recipient should be agreed directly with the surveyor before instruction.
Are domestic travel, haul-out and sea trial included?
Only when stated in writing. Flights, ferries, road travel, accommodation, yard fees, lift, wash, relaunch, skipper, fuel and specialist diagnostics can be separate.
Who appoints the marine surveyor?
The client appoints and instructs the independent surveyor directly after agreeing scope, fee, timing and terms. Thailand Marine Survey provides information and introductions only.
